Hey everyone. Sorry it have been so long since I have posted an update. I have been feverishly working on some new art and several commissions. Currently I am working one three different 747’s all for a client at UPS. We have completed a 747-400CF a 747-400 BCF and we are currently working on a new 747-800CF. We completed a Mooney for a client and have just finished a Pitts S-1 for the same client. We are doing a repaint on an SR-22 for another customer as well as a few more commissions. We also have added a few more art pieces of some existing caricatures. as well as a special car caricature for a local landmark here in So Cal. I also added a new caricature with character. This time a FJ Fury. I plan on doing several versions of this caricatures in several different media. I have completed the standard digital coloring version. I am trying to finish up a graphite version and have planned out a color pencil version.
I have added a new P-51 Racer from the early days of Reno. Race 9, a chocolate brownand white trimmed racer.
I also addded my first Jet Class racer, the 2016 National Champion winner, American Spirit, an Aero L-39 Albatross
I will try and post the images as soon as I can and I hope to make these updated a more regular occurrence.
Last year we offered a round Christmas ornaments with your choice of caricatures inside. We are doing the same again this year. check out the examples below. ornaments are $10 plus shipping. You can pick which two images from our collection of caricatures you would like inside and whether you would like them plain, with just the aircraft, or with “Happy Holidays or “Merry Christmas”.
The first ever Blackheart Art caricature calendars have been ordered. We ordered a limited number of wall calendars and Desk Top Calendars to gauge the interest. If we sell these out then the plan will be to do another one next year or two next year in larger numbers. The wall calendars are made with heavy card stock with glossy image pages. So order now and when they arrive we will process your order. Remember these are limited.
Here is one of the recent commissions I have been working on, a Luscombe painted in a wonderful copper color. The same customer also ordered a second Luscombe so look for that one soon. Here is the Penny. Thanks Charlie.
While putting the finishing touches on a few new caricature commission, I put together a few new racers from this years Reno Air Races. First is a Formula 1 racer i had been working on for awhile. Pooder, a Cassut III, race 20. I really like the paint scheme for this little racer.
Next up is another on the diminutive Unlimited field from this years Reno Air races. Race 12, The Rebel. I also have a regular proportioned side profile coming very soon. Just need to work on the name on the nose and small details.
And finally the first in a series I hope to put together called the Podium series. It will all depend on how much time I can squeeze in between commissions and other projects. Here is the first Podium… the Unlimiteds from 2016 Reno Air Races. Voodoo took the gold, Czech Mate, took second, and Dreadnought took third. Next up most likely will be T-6 class. I already have the third place finisher ( winner from last year) Midnight Miss, so just need to modify any slight changes in sponsor markings. Last night worked on the winner, Baron’s Revenge. (If anyone has pictures of the right side it would be very helpful.)So I will only need one more. Someone asked for Formula 1 and I will have to do two completely new caricatures to get that podium complete, the winner and third place aircraft. So look for the next one in the series soon.
Well Reno National Championship Air Racers have come and gone. Still going through withdrawal. Love the races and lets hope we can make it up there next year and do a booth. In the mean time I have been finishing up a few caricatures and doing some repaints to a couple of my regular profiles. First up is a commission I recently did for a client. The DC-3 Clipper Tabitha May. Love this look of this beautiful aircraft.
Next up is a couple of racers from the recent Reno Air races. Sparky and Wee Willy II. We Willy is part of the Planes of Fame and I had done a profile of this bird awhile back, so took this time to modify the paint scheme to reflect the markings she wore at the racers this year.
Next was another regular profile of Sparky. the air racer I did a few years ago as a caricature. This time she is wearing a new paint scheme for 2016. Sparky on one side and Blondie on the other. And with the completed regular profile I had to repaint the caricature to match the new scheme.
That about does it for this update. I hope to be doing more racers soon. If you don’t see you favorite racer just let me know. We love working on commissions.
I can’t believe it has been since July that I have posted an updated. I have been busy working on a few commissions that are under wraps until they are presented to the intended. In the mean time I have had a chance to finally finish one of the air racers I have always wanted to do. The National champion from 1979, beating out the famous Red Baron who was just seconds away from a forced belly landing which destroyed the racer and badly injured the pilot, is the modified P-51 Mustang “Sumthin Else”. Owned and racer by Mr. John Crocker. I have long thought that this racer which was previously know as Miss Foxy Lady, raced by Ken Burnstien, had a very attractive and simple paint scheme. In the later years the paint scheme changes to a very dark blue and white, but this is how she looked in 1979. After Mr Crocker pass, the plane was sold and became a TF-51D owned by Stallion 51 and carries the name Crazy Horse II. Another modified racer that has been converted back to stock form. I have added two version, one with standard side profile and one with background. Check out the Air Racer section for this and more Air Racers.
I also have added my first Bristol Beaufighter to my ever growing Air Force, I have painted this in in the markings of 417th Fighter Squadron while based in Corsica. Hopefully I will do either a RAF or New Zealand AF version.
Happy Fourth of July to all my customers, friends family and fans. Hope you have a great holiday and enjoy a bit of American BBQ and fun.
Okay for this Fourth OI put together a really cool print with the Blue Angles and Thunderbirds combining to salute to the good old USA. Prints are 12×17 and we can also do prints on Metal in various sizes. judging by the 20×30 sunset print I had done on metal this one will look awesome.
Next up, while I as at it this weekend I I added another Air Racer, this time from the early days of Reno and air racing in the 1960’s The P-51K “Little One” racer by Lyle Shelton. Yes the same Lyle Shelton that flew the Bear to so many Championships. The was his first taste of Air Racing. He flew this Mustang owned by Richard Vartanian. Later this racer would become “Tonopah Miss” and carried race 12, in the 64 and 65 Reno Air Races.
Okay there you have it the newest caricatures. Have a great Fourth!
After attending the Planes of Fame air show I was inspired by one of the aircraft that attended the show. The A-26 Invader, Silver Dragon. This highly polished warbird is a tribute the men who flew the Invader in combat in WWII. She is painted to represent an aircraft that flew with the 552nd Bomb Squadron with the 386th Bomb Group in Europe. This my first A-26 caricature and hopefully not the last. I am currently working on a gear down version of Silver Dragon. I hope to have that done very soon. This time I added a bit of backgrounds and framing. There is also a second version of the Dragon with gear down. I have only done a few of these with gear down, and look to do a few more. Let me know what you think.
